Obviously I'm really cautious about all of this so would really appreciate any help or advice?

Please check on your motherboard to see whether its a Rev. If it is, then that is indeed the BIOS to download and install, and that is the correct site.

The best way to accomplish this is to keep your motherboard's BIOS and chipset drivers up to date.

Many motherboard manufacturers release updates that resolve crucial issues related to system crashes and/or slow performance.

I've updated a few things, but then I fell on the BIOS.

I found the HP guide on finding what current version is already on my computer (Insyde F.12, 04/09/2012) and then reviewed to ensure whether there was the updated version.

The main purpose of the BIOS is to check all the hardware components attached to the computer and then to load the software on a boot device (hard disk or CD/DVD). The BIOS will check for all hardware components like hard disk drives, CPUs, RAM, graphics cards, keyboards, mice, optical disk drives, and other hardware. Mainly, you can use it to configure the hardware on your computer.

You can modify settings for hard drives, RAM chips, the CPU and other hardware.

Depending on who you talk to, you’ll quickly find that there is no one answer.

Lots of people feel updating the BIOS is not necessary unless there’s a specific reason while others feel updating to the latest version is always a good idea.
